Letter To The Editor:
There are so many people to thank that I cannot adequately express my
heartfelt gratitude. It has been a hectic and oft-times emotional road
for me, my family and many supporters who banded together to protect our
community against the proposed strip club. This sexually oriented
business (SOB) almost went up just outside the North Park subdivision
along Grand Avenue leading towards Pflugerville. However, with the help
of numerous supporters, we were able to defeat the intrusion of this
inappropriate enterprise from becoming a blight on our neighborhood and
an embarrassment to the gateway to Pflugerville.
I do however, want to let the public know about the efforts of a number
of individuals that played a pivotal role in beating back the strip
club. I would like to recognize the residents of North Park,
Springbrook, Cambridge Heights, Heatherwilde, Katymead and Saxony who
came out and participated in protests and signed petitions against the
proposed club. We gathered over 2,300 signatures in a little over six
weeks, which is a testament to the community's desire for safe and
wholesome environments for our families.
Additional thanks go to Don Zimmerman, Karen Sonleitner, and Mark Strama.
Moreover, I would like to put out a "special thanks" to Julia Ruiz and
Victor Gonzales of Pflugerville Pfamilies Pfirst (PPP). When I was
frustrated and the effort seemed uncertain, and wanting to give up, I
contacted PPP. Led by Julia Ruiz and Victor Gonzales PPP launched into
action and brought in dedicated volunteers and support that really
focused media attention and public pursuasion to bear against Universal
Media. This ultimately led to the demise of the SOB project. I cannot
thank them enough. Thank God for PPP!!! They are a resource that the
city of Pflugerville is so lucky to have.
Thank you, Deanna Burleson and Family |
